Technical apprenticeship at Mars

In the following overview you can find more information about our technical apprenticeships:

Bachelor of Engineering (BA)

  • Major: Technical systems
  • Location: Verden
  • Duration: 3 years
  • Practice: This training is structured between practice phases at Mars and theory at a business academy. During the practice phases the BA students will work across the different technical departments of the company while expanding and putting into practice the knowledge learned at the academy.
  • Theory: An academic program of study based on industrial technical knowledge is taught at the business academy. More information can be found at  www.ba-emsland.de.

Mechatronic Technician

  • Location: Verden or Minden
  • Duration: 3.5 years
  • Practice: A Mechatronic Technician has the skills and knowledge to use applications necessary for today's complex production systems.  A "hands on" approach to project work ensures an interesting and successful completion of the apprenticeship. The training covers areas of metal and plastic, mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, automation, electro-technology, electronics, maintenance and quality control.       
  • Theory: Weekly classroom study takes place at the vocational schools in Verden ( www.bbs-verden.de) and block training in Minden ( www.lsbk.de). School subjects include mechanics, computer systems, electro-technology, process technology, quality, project management and English. Note: The apprenticeship takes place in a cooperative training scheme with the company e.on. 

Electronic Technician for Automation Technology (EAT)

  • Location: Verden
  • Duration: 3.5 years
  • Practice: Work areas after completing the apprenticeship include the installation and maintenance of measuring, controlling and steering components on our highly-automated production systems.  A "hands on" approach to project work ensures an interesting and successful completion of the apprenticeship. The training covers areas of metal work, pneumatics, steering systems, automation, electro-technology, electronics, measuring, controlling and network technology.  
  • Theory: Weekly classroom study takes place at the vocational schools in Verden ( www.bbs-verden.de). School subjects include electronics, process technology, quality and project management, computer systems, digital circuitry and English. 

Electronic Technician for Operations Technology (EFB)

  • Location: Viersen
  • Duration: 3.5 years
  • Practice: Electronic Technicians at Mars are mainly engaged in tasks requiring technical skills. The tasks are not only limited to installation, wiring and assembly, but also cover operations and maintenance of systems for energy distribution, power drives, sensors and lighting. A "hands on" approach to project work ensures an interesting and successful completion of the apprenticeship.
  • Theory: Classroom study takes place at the Technical College ( www.bkft.de) in Mönchengladbach Mühlfort. Subjects covered include mechanics, computer systems, electro-technology, process technology and English.

Industrial Confectionery Technician 

  • Location: Viersen
  • Duration: 3 years
  • Practice: Mars offers 3-year apprenticeships in the field of baked goods, as many of the products made in Viersen, e.g. Balisto and Twix, contain baked components. Our apprentices are active in all areas of production and packaging including operations in goods-in, goods-out, laboratory, sensory panels, packaging development, product development and industrial engineering. Additional training also supplements the apprenticeship with further learning at foreign sites for the production of chocolate (Veghel / Holland) and waffles (Breitenbrunn / Austria).  
  • Theory: Classroom studies are located at the Central College of the German Confectionery Industry in Solingen (  www.zds-solingen.de). Coursework is organized in block training of four to six weeks where you will live in a dormitory at the school ( www.zds-jugendwohnheim.de).  
  • Note: Further education can lead to, for example, Industrial Supervisor or a Certified Food Technician majoring in baked confectionery (focal area: bakery technology / food technology). Apprentices who have passed the advanced technical college or general college entrance qualification have the possibility to study and earn a degree in Engineering or Food Technology.
